PGJC-Navy found itself falling short in the 2023 season, unable to secure a coveted spot on the podium in both the Open and Invitational conferences.
As the new dawn of the 2024 season approaches, the Sealions are determined to rewrite their narrative, placing their hopes on the shoulders of their newly appointed head coach, George Pascua.
Pascua, a seasoned mentor with a successful track record from steering the FEU men's team to four titles, has a grand vision for Navy.
In a league that demands excellence, Pascua is not fixated on immediate results but rather on the cultivation of long-term growth and development for the team.
During the league's media day, Pascua articulated his strategic approach, highlighting the importance of building an intact system.
He stressed the need for a reliable framework that the Sealions can lean on during crucial moments in their tournaments, ensuring a more polished and consistent performance.
"Yung system kasi yun nga nakita ko yung endgame doon kami nawawala, kasi yung endgame doon mo makikita kung may sistema ba sila kasi kapag may struggle yung isang team, pag may sistema hindi basta basta mararattle," explained Pascua, underscoring the significance of a robust system.
Pascua, having analyzed the previous games of the team, observed a lack of leadership during critical in-game situations.
To address this, he has been diligently working on instilling a sense of direction among the players, ensuring that each one plays a defined role within the team.
With only a week before the conference kick-off on March 13, Pascua remains realistic about the expectations for his team.
Drawing from his coaching experience, he envisions Navy evolving into a formidable force within the league.
However, he acknowledges the need for a gradual transformation, emphasizing the importance of adaptability to his coaching system.
"Malaki ang potential ng team pero hindi [agad] mababago lahat. Dahan dahan lang siguro. Hopefully bago matapos yung tournament maka-adapt sila doon sa system ko," Pascua stated optimistically, outlining the team's potential for greatness.
PGJC-Navy Prepares for a Resurgence with Coach Pascua at the Helm
Despite Navy's sixth-place finish out of 11 teams in the 2023 Open and eighth out of 25 squads in the 2023 Invitational, Pascua sees beyond the past statistics.
He views the team's weaknesses and strengths as stepping stones, identifying areas for improvement and growth as they embark on this new journey in the Spikers' Turf.
