Jude Garcia eyes redemption after muted Game 2

Jude Garcia knows exactly what slipped away—and he’s not hiding from it.

After exploding for 26 points in Game 1, the Criss Cross star suddenly found himself neutralized in Game 2, as Savouge’s defense tightened the screws and forced a decisive rubber match in the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference Finals. Garcia was held to just 10 points in a 22-25, 21-25, 19-25 setback at the Filoil Centre on Friday, a stark contrast to his dominant opening act.

For a player who has long carried the reputation of being a difference-maker, the timing of the quiet night only magnified the disappointment.

“Sobrang laking impact sa team namin na nawala ako sa team. Kailangan talaga sa Game 3 bumawi ako,” said the four-time league MVP and league’s first-ever Season MVP.

The 27-year-old outside hitter admitted the challenge was not just physical but also tactical, as Savouge’s floor coverage consistently disrupted Criss Cross’ offensive rhythm. The King Crunchers were limited to 35 total attacks, with Garcia attempting 25 of those swings but converting only nine.

Still, even in reflection, Garcia refused to dwell on frustration. Instead, he shifted his focus toward what comes next—the most important match of their season.

With the title now hinging on a winner-take-all Game 3 on Sunday, Garcia said he is ready to push himself further than usual in an attempt to restore his impact on the floor.

“Pero siyempre sabi ko nga, no pressure pa rin. Game 3 is all-or-nothing na eh, so kailangan talaga namin — kailangan ko talaga doblehin o kaya triplehin yung effort ko,” he added.

Beyond his own performance, Garcia emphasized that Criss Cross must rediscover its identity as a unit. He pointed out that Game 2 simply did not reflect the squad that had lifted the championship in the previous conference.

“Okay lang matalo kasi normal naman. Kailangan talaga namin — sabi nga ni Sir Jonathan [Ng] sa amin, hindi kami yung naglaro kanina. Talagang sa Game 3, ipakita namin talaga kung sino talaga yung Criss Cross na nag-champion last conference,” Garcia said.

As the series heads into its final chapter, Garcia knows every possession will matter—and that redemption will not come from one player alone, but from a collective response under pressure.

“Kailangan talaga namin bumawi at kailangan talaga namin mag-doble effort sa ginagawa namin, kasi hindi pa tapos yung laban, may Game 3 pa naman. Talagang every point importante talaga sa Game 3.”
