VNS secures QF ticket in PNVF CL

VNS Quezon City easily defeated AIP Benguet, 25-15, 25-17, 25-14, to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the PNVF Champions League Thursday at the Philsports Arena.


Ben San Andres had 18 points, including two service aces, while Alfred Pagulong chipped in 17 points for the Griffins to finish their Pool A stint in third place at 2-2.


As the second-best third place finisher, VNS Quezon City edged Pool C's No. 3 Santa Rosa via tiebreak, joining Pool A's PGJC-Navy and Cignal, Pool B's National University-Pasay City and North Cotabato, and Pool C's Bacolod and Army Taguig City in Friday's quarterfinals.


Bacolod was the pool round's best third place finisher.


Kevin Montemayor and Michael Doria each had seven points for the Griffins, who needed 77 minutes to sweep Benguet.


PGJC-Navy became the Pool A winners following a 25-22, 25-14, 25-23 victory over Basilan.


Joeven dela Vega tallied 12 points, including two service aces, while Greg Dolor had nine kills for the Sea Lions, who swept all of their pool matches.


The semifinals is set on Saturday while the medal matches will be played on Sunday
