VNS-Nasty, drawing strength from the returning Rocky Motol and Ralph Lacuanan, secured its second win in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, eliminating Maverick via a 22-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-15 decision at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Friday night.
“Nagpalit kasi kami ng tao. Yung mga players- ko before na nagka-school works, ngayong available na sila, ibinalik ko, so maganda yung timpla nung team,” said VNS head coach Ralph Ocampo.
After the Griffins drew level in the second set, the Hard Hitters racked up four straight points in the third frame, but the former responded with a crippling 21-4 run to seize a 2-1 set lead.
The Hard Hitters failed to recover from that big Griffins’ assault, enabling the latter to cruise to the one-hour, 48-minute victory.
Motol delivered 14 points in three sets, the same output put in by Wewe Medina, who also finished with nine excellent receptions.
Kenneth Culabat likewise shone with 13 points, 16 receptions, and six digs for the Griffins, who will next face the unbeaten Cignal HD Spikers on Wednesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
