Vet Wewe Medina inspires VNS-Nasty's resurgence

In VNS-Nasty's quest for redemption in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, one name rises above the rest—Wewe Medina.

With a blend of youthfulness and a hunger for experience, Medina has emerged as the linchpin of the team's resurgence.

Drawing from a rich tapestry of volleyball exploits, including stints in various club teams and a coaching role with Premier Volleyball League's Galeries Tower, Medina has eagerly embraced the mantle of leadership.

His journey reached a pivotal moment as he steered the Griffins to a resounding victory over Richmarc Sports 3B, igniting hopes of a turnaround for the squad.

Medina spearheaded VNS-Nasty's charge with an impressive tally of 18 points, showcasing his prowess with 17 successful spikes out of 25 attempts.

Not content with offensive brilliance alone, he also contributed 12 excellent receptions and five crucial digs.

Reflecting on his pivotal role, Medina expressed, “Ang sarap sa pakiramdam at nakakachallenge din. Kailangan kong simulan sa sarili ko, kailangan kong ipakita kung ano ang dapat, kung ano ang kaya ko, at dapat maging role model ako.”

While Medina's brilliance illuminated the court, he was buoyed by a supporting cast eager to make their mark.

Rising talents like Ron Adviento, Kenneth Culabat, and Louise Bartolome showcased their potential, contributing significantly to the team's triumph.

Moreover, the youthful exuberance of 6-foot-2 setter Dominic Casta?eda added a dynamic dimension to VNS-Nasty's gameplay, underscoring the team's depth and promise for the future.

For Medina, leadership extends far beyond the confines of the game.

He recognizes the pivotal role of fostering camaraderie, emphasizing the importance of chemistry both on and off the court.

“Nagstart lahat sa training, yung chemistry at kung pano namin kilalanin ang isa’t isa. Sa training pa lang, kami ni Coach Ralph (Ocampo) doon pa lang kailangan leader na ako,” he shared.

As the season progresses, Medina remains steadfast in his commitment to leading by example, urging his teammates to seize every moment on the grand stage of the country's premier volleyball league.

“Sobrang swerte nung mga bata hindi lang sa akin. Kasi unang-una nakakaexperience sila ng ganitong laban in their young age so sobrang lucky nila.”
