Saints and Lattes-Letran rebounds, sweeps St. Gerrard-CSB

Saints and Lattes-Letran dispatched NCAA rival St. Gerrard Construction-Benilde, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23, in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena, Wednesday night.

Coming off a tough loss to Cignal, the Saints Spikers bounced back in style as they moved to the second spot in Pool C with a 2-1 record.

“Actually, talagang pinaghandaan namin yung game na ‘to kasi syempre ang haba nung time namin para makapag-prepare so yun nga na-control namin yung labanan,” said Letran head coach Brian Esquibel.

John Derrick Bautista top scored for the Saints Spikers with 13 points on 10 attacks, two aces, and one block while Felix Bermido and Lorenz Vicente chipped in 10 markers apiece after an hour and 27 minutes of action.

Reigning NCAA Rookie of the Year Vince Himzon, who missed the team’s straight-set defeat versus the HD Spikers due to flu, came back in style and delivered 10 points in the victory.

With Benilde knocking on the door, Vicente fired a cross-court hit to break the 22-all deadlock before an attack error from Rockyroy Motol gave Letran a 24-22 advantage late in the third set.

Wayne Arano committed a service error which saved a point for the Blazing Builders. A service error from Jericho Fardo then sealed the win for the Saints Spikers.

Arnel Aguilar and Mike Balbacal led the 1-2 Benilde with eight points each in the contest.
