After four years of dreaming, EJ Casaña made it a reality on Friday.
He debuted for Cignal in the 2023 Spikers' Turf Open Conference, something he's hoped to be a part of since 2019.
"Sobrang masaya at excited dahil dream team ko na po ang Cignal noong 2019 pa," said the new setter of the HD Spikers.
In his first game with "Team Awesome", Casaña delivered 13 excellent sets, showing his chemistry with middle blockers JP Bugaoan and Peter Torres, as well as spikers Marck Espejo, Ysay Marasigan, and Wendel Miguel.
More importantly, Cignal cruised to a 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 victory over Santa Rosa to join five other teams atop the standings after three playdates.
HD Spikers head coach Dexter Clamor, who has been eyeing Casaña for the team for a long time, bared how easy the adjustment was.
"More than one month pa lang kaming nagtrraining pero yung jelling niya sa team, talagang maayos. May ipopolish ng kaunti pero hindi malayo yung hinahabol sa training saka sa game," said Clamor.
Last season, Casaña played for PGJC-Navy, which he guided to deal Cignal its first loss in three years during the 2022 Open Conference preliminary round.
