PGJC Navy stretches streak to 3, schools Bayleaf

PGJC-Navy extended its winning streak to three games with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 win over The Bayleaf Hotels, Friday in the 2023 Spikers' Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The Sealions, after an opening game defeat to Chef on a Diet-FEU, have yet to lose a game, raising their record to 3-1 for solo second in Pool D while also eliminating the Pirates, who remained winless in four games.

"Yung first game kasi namin na talo, lesson learned talaga sa players ko kaya pinag-igihan nila yung ensayo nila tapos ayun dinadahan-dahan namin yung goal na maangat yung team hanggang makarating kami sa pinakagoal namin," said Navy head coach Cecille Cruzada on their inspiration during their hot streak.

A spirited Pirates blitz tied the third set at 16 but errors soon after doomed them while Sealions' Edward Camposano, Wilbert Sapida, and Omar Lioc connived to finish the game in just one hour and nine minutes.

Camposano delivered 15 points on 11 attacks, a block, and three aces including the match-clinching service that Bayleaf could not receive properly.

Joeven dela Vega chipped in eight points and six digs, while libero Jack Kalingking shone with 18 excellent receptions.

Jun Edang and Icon Aquino paced the Pirates with 12 and nine points, respectively.

Games in the tournament, backed by ArenaPlus, Bola.TV, Beyond Active Wear, ASICS and Mikasa, can be streamed live on SpikersTurf.ph and Pilipinas Live and telecast on OneSports and OneSportsPlus.
