PGJC-Navy smothers Alpha Omega, rolls into quarters

PGJC-Navy imposed its will early and went on to thump Alpha Omega, 25-14, 25-17, 25-13, and secure the second playoffs berth in Pool D in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena on Wednesday night.

The Sealions, who closed out with a 4-1 mark, thus joined group topnotcher FEU-Chef on a Diet (4-0) in the post-elims play while also eliminating the Savouge-RTU Basilan side (3-1) from contention via points and set ratio differentials.

"Okay naman yung nagawa nila ngayon, nag-enjoy naman sila. Maingay na. Yun kasi ang kulang namin talaga so at least ginawa nila," said Navy head coach Cecille Cruzada.

The Sealions dominated from the get-go and hardly slowed down the rest of the way, winning in attacks (35-18), blocks (8-3) and aces (5-0) to likewise deal the Elite Spikers their fourth loss against a solitary win.

Greg Dolor led the charge for Navy, which saw a total of 12 players register a point in the 59-minute contest, with 11 points on nine attacks and two kill blocks.

Edward Camposano added eight markers on five attacks, two aces and a block while Omar Lioc and Marvin Villanueva added five and four points, respectively, for the Sealions.

"Ensayo pa rin kami kung ano yung weakness namin para preparation sa quarterfinals. Yung blockings improve pa tapos yung enjoyment at communication sa loob ng court yun lang ang hinihingi namin sa kanila para sa quarterfinals," said Cruzada.

Razzel Palisoc scored six points while John Diwa had four markers for the Elite Spikers.
