Marck Espejo rallies Criss Cross championship aspirations

In the wake of Criss Cross's disappointing defeat to Cignal in Game 1 of the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference finals, Marck Espejo acknowledged the heightened determination displayed by their opponents. Despite Criss Cross's momentum from a thrilling semifinal victory over the HD Spikers, they faced challenges in finding their rhythm against Cignal's relentless energy.

Espejo, a pivotal figure in Criss Cross's lineup, pointed out a significant moment in the match where Cignal's Jau Umandal's extraordinary effort epitomized the intensity of the finals—a testament to the fierce competition at hand.

“Well, alam naman namin na babawi talaga ‘yung Cignal kasi natalo sila last time, so mas gutom ‘yung Cignal. Kita naman sa habol ni Jau [Umandal] kanina sa bola, alam mong gusto talaga nila manalo kesa sa amin,” said Espejo, reflecting on the match.

As they gear up for Game 2, Espejo emphasized the need for Criss Cross to maintain the right mindset to keep their championship aspirations alive. With a day of rest ahead, the team plans to analyze and adjust their strategies accordingly in training.

“Siguro ‘yung proper mindset lang siguro na championship game ‘to, na parang kasi minsang isang puntos, dalawang puntos, tatlong puntos pinapalipas namin bago kami maka-recover,” he added.

Espejo's stellar performance, contributing 22 points with 20 attacks and two blocks, underscored his leadership on the court. However, he recognized the team's need to minimize errors and execute their plays more effectively to extend the series.

“So parang hindi dapat ganun tsaka errors pa rin talaga. Errors din talaga tumatalo sa amin kaya hindi kami maka-execute ng maayos,” he concluded.

As Criss Cross prepares for the upcoming showdown, Espejo's guidance and determination will be instrumental in their quest to turn the tide and seize victory in the finals.
