The Philippine Men's Volleyball National Team has named its training pool for the upcoming 32nd Southeast Asian Games, and a majority of the roster is composed of players from the AMC-Cotabato team.
Nine of the 15 men named by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation hail from the Cotabato Spikers. Head coach Odjie Mamon is optimistic about the selection.
"I hope that it would be an advantage," said Mamon. "Actually, that was proven in 2019 when the core of the team was from NU and Air Force, and they meshed well."
Mamon cites the 2019 SEA Games squad, which won a historic silver medal, as an example of what can be achieved when players have a shared history of playing together.
The Cotabato Spikers in the training pool are Lloyd Josafat, Rex Intal, Jau Umandal, Vince Lorenzo, Madz Gampong, Kim Dayandante, Jelex Mendiola, Edward Camposano, and Jayvee Sumagaysay. The rest of the roster includes players from Iloilo, NU-Team B, UST, La Salle, and Ateneo.
Mamon is taking the team to Taiwan on February 15 for a 10-day training camp
