FEU DN Steel carries unfinished business into showdown with NU Archipelago

Far Eastern University-DN Steel enters its rematch against National University-Archipelago Builders in the V-League Finals with a point to prove as the two collegiate squads headline a packed quadruple-header in the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Sunday at the Filoil Centre.

The Tamaraws (2-0), who squandered a 1-0 series lead and a sizable advantage in the deciding fifth set of Game 3 in the V-League finale, look to exact revenge on the Bulldogs (2-0) at 3 p.m., with both teams aiming to extend their winning starts to three games in the tournament.

Meanwhile, AEP-Cabstars (0-2) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (0-2) seek their first wins of the conference when they open the quadruple-header at 11 a.m., followed by the 1 p.m. clash between Savouge (0-2) and 3B (1-1).

Defending champion Criss Cross (2-0) then takes on Alpha Insurance (1-1) at 5 p.m. to close out the day's action.

FEU rides the momentum of back-to-back victories over the Cabstars and VNS-Laticrete, with its latest triumph proving particularly impressive as the Tamaraws overcame the Griffins despite missing three starters in Amet Bituin, Kyle Tandoc, and Rhodson Du-ot.

Team captain Dryx Saavedra is expected to lead the charge anew for FEU after erupting for 25 points in its 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22 victory over VNS. The sting of their V-League Finals defeat also serves as added motivation for the Tamaraws as they seek to settle the score against NU.

“Syempre ‘yun nga last V-League ko na rin ‘yun pero ‘di maganda ‘yung exit, pero syempre laging sinasabi sa’min ng coaches namin na kapag may chance, lagi lang naming kailangang i-grab,” said Saavedra.

“Tapos ‘wag naman i-ano ‘yung sarili namin sa pagkatalo na ‘yun kasi syempre as athlete, motivation din sa’min na na-experience namin ‘yun. Sure ako ako at ang buong team namin maraming natutunan dun,” he added.

However, FEU faces a tough test against a Bulldogs squad that has opened its campaign with commanding victories over the Griffins and the Protectors.

NU has been particularly impressive at the net, with Obed Mukaba leading the way in the blocking department to anchor the Bulldogs’ defense and make life difficult for opposing attackers.

Mukaba has emerged as a force at the net, tallying eight blocks against VNS before adding seven more against Alpha Insurance to give NU a formidable defensive presence heading into its clash with FEU.

“I’m very happy to play here because I think it’s my third season. I'm very happy to help the team win with my blockings as a middle blocker so I hope we will continue this,” said the Congolese middle blocker.

The matchup sets the stage for a compelling battle of strengths, with FEU’s offensive firepower going up against NU’s imposing defensive wall in a clash where every attack and every block could prove crucial.
