FEU Chef on a Diet gears up for Perps, rips Savouge RTU Basilan

Chef on a Diet-FEU primed up for the knockout playoffs as it trounced Savouge RTU Basilan, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, to claim the top spot with a sweep of Pool D play in the 2023 Spikers' Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila Friday.

Despite the convincing win they fashioned out in one hour and 23 minutes, FEU coach Eddieson Orcullo expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s performance, particularly highlighting their numerous unforced errors that allowed the Golden Thunders to earn 22 points.

"Talagang all-out dapat pero ang daming errors eh, yung mga unforced errors na hindi pinag-isipan," rued Orcullo.

"Meron kaming two hours para mag-ensayo at paghandaan sila bukas (Sunday)," added the Tamaraws' first-year coach, referring to their quarters opponent Perpetual-Kinto Tyres, which placed second to Sta. Elena-National U in Pool A.

The knockout round among the eight surviving teams will be held tomorrow (Sunday) to be graced by a Japanese guest team.

Dryx Saavedra, who missed last week's game against Alpha Omega due to a hamstring injury, made a successful return, firing 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks, while Lirick Mendoza and Martin Bugaoan added 10 points apiece and Andrei Delicana chipped in eight markers for the Tamaraws.

Charlee Magpayo had 12 points for the Golden Thunders, who wound up third with a 3-2 record.
