Cignal hits pause, sits out Open Conference

In an announcement on Friday, the Cignal Super Spikers—the most decorated club in Spikers’ Turf history—revealed they will take a leave of absence from the upcoming Open Conference.

The decision comes after a careful review by Cignal’s management of the company’s current and long-term plans, aiming to realign the club’s programs and priorities moving forward.

“The Cignal Super Spikers - Men's Volleyball Team has formally filed a Leave of Absence for the upcoming Spikers' Turf Open Conference,” the team said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision, and we are deeply grateful to our coaches, players, and staff for their dedication and support.”

While the men’s squad pauses its campaign, Cignal’s women’s team in the Premier Volleyball League will continue its All-Filipino Conference journey, beginning tomorrow against Galeries Tower.

Since its debut in 2015, Cignal has captured nine Spikers’ Turf championships, making it the league’s most successful team. Six of those titles came under head coach Dexter Clamor, highlighted by a historic three-peat before their run for a fourth consecutive crown ended with a bronze finish in the Invitational Conference.

With Cignal sitting out, the upcoming Open Conference will feature only five teams, creating new opportunities for other clubs. Key players—including JP Bugaoan, Louie Ramirez, Owa Retamar, Vince Lorenzo, Lloyd Josafat, and Jau Umandal—are expected to test free agency.

The remaining roster—including Wendel Miguel, EJ Casana, JM Ronquillo, Cian Silang, Jared Schnake, Jay Rack De La Noche, Van Prudenciado, Nas Gwaza, Martin Bugaoan, Vince Abrot, and KC Andrade—will also be available, giving other teams a chance to bolster their lineups with proven Spikers’ Turf talent.
