Cignal, D'Navigators aim to sustain runs

Cignal and the D’Navigators look to keep the momentum of their streaks after a significant pause, facing separate opponents in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Wednesday.

The HD Spikers, led by reigning MVP Jau Umandal, aim for their fourth straight victory against the Air Force side, which will rely on the prowess of Bryan Jaleco, in the 6 p.m. main game of another explosive twinbill marking the resumption of the tournament.

Umandal put up an impressive 23-point, 10-reception effort in their 25-15, 27-25, 25-23 win over the Savouge Aesthetics last March 20.

The Airmen, on the other hand, are going all-out to rebound from their recent 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19 loss to the D’Navigators.

“Paghahandaan namin yung Air Force, pag-aaralan namin yung strengths and weaknesses nila. Again, we hope to improve kung ano yung mga lapses namin but at the same time we will focus on Air Force muna,” said Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor.

Meanwhile, Francis Saura and the D’Navigators set out for their third consecutive victory against the winless Maverick Hard Hitters at 4 p.m.

Coming off a strong start with successive victories over Air Force and Savouge, the D’Navigators, with Saura delivering 20-point performances in both games, are in high spirits.

The Maverick team, however, is determined to overturn its fortune following defeats to Criss Cross and PGJC-Navy.

D’Navigators coach Boyet Delmoro, meanwhile, highlighted their focus on enhancing their blocking capabilities, saying: “Blocking is an important aspect for us, a good offense needs to be matched with equally strong blocking.”
