Alpha Insurance is hitting its stride at the perfect time in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, finding its rhythm just as the semifinal race heats up.
Led by top guns Edward Camposano, Vincent Nadera, and JJ Javelona, the Protectors are determined to guide the league’s newest team to a semifinal berth in its debut conference.
"Andun na, onti pa para makuha namin ‘yung chemistry talaga namin," said team captain Camposano after their crucial victory over PGJC-Navy, marking their second win in three outings.
Formed at the eleventh hour to join the season-opening conference, Alpha Insurance faced early struggles due to a lack of team chemistry. Camposano admitted the adjustment period was challenging, but their recent performances suggest they are finally clicking.
"‘Yun talaga ‘yung hinahabol namin kasi halos two months pa lang kami nageensayo eh, so ‘yun talaga ‘yung hinahabol namin ‘yung maging buo ‘yung chemistry namin," Camposano added.
Following a straight-set loss to Criss Cross, where their key trio sat out, the Protectors bounced back with a gritty 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 victory over the Sealions on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Arena. The win boosted their semifinal bid and solidified their hold on the fourth spot with a 2-5 record.
Camposano spearheaded the charge with 17 points, highlighted by 14 attacks, two aces, and one block, while also tallying 12 excellent receptions. Nadera, who began the tournament as a bench player before earning a starting role, contributed 14 points—all from attacks. Javelona chipped in with a versatile performance of 10 points and 12 excellent receptions.
For Camposano, the victory was a testament to the team's perseverance.
"Sobrang saya kasi worth it lahat ng pinaghirapan namin simula nung natalo kami sa Criss Cross. Nag-mindset kami (nang maayos) na para makuha namin ‘yung panalo today," he said.
The Alpha Insurance skipper also emphasized the importance of depth and preparation for future battles.
"Need talaga namin makapag-rest at the same time para makapag laro rin ‘yung second six namin to experience din. Para kapag pinasok sila sa mga ganung sitwasyon, ready sila. ‘Yun din sabi ng mga coach sa’min, always ready din daw kami kapag tinawag."
With momentum on their side, Alpha Insurance is determined to continue its rise as they chase a spot in the Spikers' Turf Open Conference semifinals.
