Bakil, Book shine as MKA-San Beda deflects PCU-D

MKA-San Beda ended its Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference stint on a winning mode, thwarting SASKIN-PCU Dasmarinas, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23, at the Paco Arena in Manila Sunday.

The Red Spikers weathered a late Dolphins’ surge in the third set to close out their campaign in the tournament organized by Sports Vision with a 2-3 (win-loss) mark in Pool B.

PCU Dasmariñas wound up with a 0-5 slate.

“Masaya naman. Sabi ko nga sa kanila mag-enjoy sila at yung laro nila tamang galaw lang,” said San Beda head coach Ariel Dela Cruz.

“Yung galaw nila, pag-aralan lang nila para sa susunod na liga, at least alam nila saan sila po-posisyon nang maayos at alam namin paano mag-adjust,” he added.

PCU-D threatened to within, 22-23, in the third frame on a hit and a Carlo Agatep kill block. And after Ralph Cabalsa went over the block to put the Red Spikers at match point, Agatep countered with a potent blast against San Beda’s blockers.

But the high-leaping Axel Book took over, unleashing a cross-court hit that PCU-D challenged to end the game after 77 minutes.

Anrei Bakil led San Beda with 11 points on five attacks, five kill blocks and an ace while Book had 10 points on nine attacks and finished with four excellent digs.

Meanwhile, Reynald Honro paced the Dolphins with 12 points while Agatep chipped in 10 markers.
