Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo will lead the charge for Alas Pilipinas as the Philippine National Volleyball Federation unveiled the country’s 14-man lineup for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship on Wednesday.
The two marquee hitters return from injuries—Bagunas from a knee issue and Espejo (Criss Cross) from an ankle setback—to anchor a squad mixing veteran presence with a new wave of collegiate standouts.
Both remain the faces of men’s volleyball in the Philippines after spearheading the silver medal finish in the 30th Southeast Asian Games, and they now look to replicate that success on the world stage.
The Nationals are slotted in Pool A, where they will take on Tunisia, Iran, and Egypt in their historic World Championship debut.
Bagunas and Espejo will be joined at the wings by young guns Buds Buddin (NU), Louie Ramirez (Cignal), and Jade Disquitado (NU), giving Alas Pilipinas depth in the scoring lanes.
Cignal setter Owa Retamar continues to serve as the squad’s primary playmaker, backed up by Eco Adajar.
The middle blocker corps will be manned by veteran Kim Malabunga (Criss Cross), alongside Peng Taguibolos (NU) and Lloyd Josafat (Cignal), both bringing length and athleticism.
At opposite, Leo Ordiales (NU) is expected to share attacking duties with Ramirez.
On the defensive end, liberos Josh Ybañez (UST), Jack Kalingking (Navy), and Vince Lorenzo (Cignal) will provide stability in floor coverage and first-ball control.
Italian tactician Angiolino Frigoni, who has guided the team through its recent international campaigns, will be at the helm.
He will be supported by fellow Italian Alejandro Aldana and respected local mentors Odjie Mamon, Dante Alinsunurin, and Dexter Clamor.
